]]>The hardware is no different to the current Vita and this gadget is as affordable as a prison haircut at only around $100 (expect around R2000).
So what’s the point? Content. This gadget competes pretty directly with the Apple TV as it’ll be able to stream and host a bunch of media services and playback content in HD.
Never have I been more convinced that they’re dishing out gadgets just so we’ll pay for downloads.

]]>It’s a completely new redesign, a whole new Kinect and a new controller that looks just like a child’s play thing. Perfect!
Specs? An eight-core processor and AMD Graphics, 8GB of RAM, a Blu-ray player (weird?), USB 3.0 and a stock 500GB hard drive. That’s the power of 3 consoles, all in one.
It obviously uses the computing software of Microsoft, it bundles in Skype connectivity and promises Live TV integration. Connected gaming is going to the next level.
Kinect has also gotten a reworking, improving accuracy with HD 1080p camera and Skype connectivity. It’ll pick up your heartbeat, apparently.
Now let us bask in the glory of the Xbox One and wait for a review unit.

]]>This immersive gaming experience is still a way off, but the developers of the Oculus goggles currently have 9000 units in the hands of game developers around the world. The idea is that these developers will come up with games that the public can play when the goggles are ready for consumption in a few years.
The Oculus goggles are better than other’s on the market thanks to their sensor which refreshes the picture within 2 seconds. This is considerably faster than for example Sony’s AR goggles which I played with a few years back. What’s the point of gaming if there’s lag? Right?
This sensor has everything in it: a gyroscope, an accelerometer, a magnetometer, and a microcontroller that tracks the pitch, yaw, and roll of the player’s head instantly. They weigh 11 ounces and have a 7-inch screen inside which is connected to the player’s computer. The image that comes through is then split and made into a 3D image.
I only hope that by the time this type of gaming becomes a reality, we’re still in need of it and Google Glass hasn’t ruined our reality already.

It’s got no internet capabilities and games are played on small discs rather than downloaded onto a hard drive. The idea here being it’s an opportunity for you to play all the Wii games that have launched in the 6 years of Wii. These include: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy and Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City and Mario Party 8 and Wii Sports Resort.

]]>The hardware
The only info that was released ITO hardware was that the PS4 will run on an X86 8-core CPU and have 8GB of memory.
In fact, they didn’t even bother to show off the new device, only the new Dual-Shock controller. Leaves a lot of questions in consumers’ minds, primary of which: did you forget it at home?
New development
Sony are pinning the PlayStation 4’s success on its ease of use for new developers to develop new games for the title. Their thinking is that the value of having a powerful computer on a single chip has grown less important, and instead the new PlayStation is going to be built on a traditional PCs architecture. This, they say, will make it incredibly easy for developers to create games for it.
Getting social
The PlayStation 3 suffered in the wake of the Xbox 360 for one simple, but very important reason: social gaming. The Xbox Live environment had it, the PS3 didn’t. That’s all going to change.
More than that, PS4 players will be able to explore and trial any game in the PS Store for free before buying. And you’ll be able to participate in some virtual spectating, watching your friends in-game action. That’s nifty.
And like the Wii U offered mobile gaming, with the PS4 you can likewise send your game to your mobile PS Vita device and carry on playing mobile-ly.
They also say the console “will get to know you”, incorporate in-game chat and include instant restart between sessions. Downloading games will be playable before the game finishes downloading. A big deal in SA broadband.
What else can it do
Finally Sony has realised that gamers do more than just game, they also watch movies and listen to music. The PS4 has become an entertainment hub with access to movies, music and pictures and services like Amazon, Netflix and Hulu.
Access to social networks like Facebook is also possible, keeping the PS4 relevant in this era of tablets and smartphones.
Good times ahead.

]]>Just in case it is, here’s what the rumour mill is saying at the moment.
Specs
Hardware is always a guess, but the internet says it’ll be hosting a AMD x86 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 320GB HDD.
Will it have 4K resolution? Only time will tell. But there are those that claim it’ll be 10 times faster than the current product. That will be something to behold.
Control
For me this is a case of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, but that hasn’t stopped people suggesting that something completely different is on its way. And if the functionality of the Wii U controller (which is pretty novel, even if the application isn’t great) is anything to go by, then we’re in for some drastic surprises. Could there be a touchscreen included? Where will it go?
Price
Well it can’t be as expensive as the PS3 was compared to the Xbox 360. It just can’t. Sony will be out of the race if this is the case. Rather leave out some kit and get the price right, I say.
Here’s a must watch history of the Playstation to tide you over the next 24 hour.

]]>The post NVIDIA Project Shield handheld gamer NEW GADGET appeared first on Reviews of the latest gadgets and cars - AskSteve.co.za.
]]>NVIDIA aren’t messing around with their “Project Shield” handheld gaming device. It runs the world’s fastest mobile processor, the Tegra 4 chip and it’ll let you play with it for 38 hours before tuning your it needs to be plugged in. For those in the know, that’s about long enough for the first leg of a Counter Strike frag-fest.
Obviously it’s a full-HD touch-screen display and it runs everything off Android OS, so it’ll support all your favourite apps. Those with the know-how will have it streaming games from their NVIDIA spec PCs in no time.
Does look a bit bulky though, and gaming nerds aren’t known for their strength.
