Lytro “Illium” makes use of a tech that we were introduced to a couple of years back, this time for the really, really high end market.

Instead of just taking a picture, cameras with light field technology instead captures a collection of useful information from the shot its just taken, in particular info from the light. Color and brightness of the light, the direction it’s travelling and more. With this info, the smart camera then allows the user to manipulate the photo they’ve just taken. So for example, they can refocus the shot they got wrong, or change the tilt or angle of the shot.

The Illium has a 40-megaray light field sensor, 8x optical zoom range, constant f/2.0 aperture and a high-speed shutter and it’s unique software allows the user to view the pics in 3D, build animations and export them for the web or sharing on Instagram like a hipster.

Oh! And it’s gaspingly gorgeous!
