From April 1st( if only it was a joke) prices for all digital sales are going to rise by 14%. The latest electronic services regulations, published by our dear Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, states that all digital sales will be affected by this hike, including those from any “export country” to South African residents, or where payment is made from a local bank.
That means that whatever you buy online, from an e-book to a song on iTunes, is going to be more expensive. With the Rand showing no signs of increasing, it looks like we are going to have a tough time ahead.
If this weren’t all bad enough, experts predict that the tax hike will increase the price of digital goods as well, which means that we’ll be paying even more than 14% by the end of the year. I hope those firepools were worth it
