Oakley are indeed still around, and now they’re making ridiculously advanced goggles made specifically with snowboarders in mind. Unnecessary and expensive they may be, but there’s no doubt these things are out of this world awesome. It’s like they’ve taken the best parts of SSX and thrown them in to a real life Head Up Display.
The “Airwave” goggles house a tiny screen that are perceived by the rider as a 14-inch display. The display flashes: distance, airtime, temperature, speed , altitude thanks to an array of sensors like GPS, accelerometer and gyro. These sensors also allow the goggles to pick up where you or any of your friends are on any of 600 snow resorts worldwide.
The Airwave also connect via Bluetooth to your cellphone so you can play music, skip tracks, read SMS and more.
