The Mini JCW GP: hands down the world’s best track hatch NEW CAR

Mini-John_Cooper_Works_GP_2013_800x600_wallpaper_01

If there’s one thing Mini knows, it’s how to send a car around a track quickly. And in the Mini JCW GP, BMW flexes their track muscles like a ‘roid head shagging a gym bunny. All the Mini’s in the current range are exciting vehicles to drive. Sure the entry level Mini One at 72kw isn’t the quickest car in the world, but even driving that, you’re reminded of why Mini is where it is today thanks to those years of putting the American muscle cars in their place on the touring car circuit. Slower than a V8 on the straights, but capable of embarrassing those bulky Yanks in the corners. And now, they’ve sharpened the tip of their spear in the form of the Mini JCW GP. This is the world’s best hatch on a track. The love has all gone in to Mini’s not-so-Mini Countryman, a car that… Read More »

Facebook creates their first SmartPhone NEW GADGET

facebook04

Well they’ve done it in conjunction with HTC, so let’s not get carried away. What Facebook have brought to the party is their own OS called “Home” which will run on Android devices and aims to remove the barrier between opening up the Facebook app and posting annoying updates to Facebook. Instead, users of “Home” will see all their updates, friends and likes right there on the home screen. And also will be able to update and like from within any app. There’s not much more to it, so on the good side, it’s not complicated. The device itself comes in red, white, black or blue and has a 4.3-inch screen and a 5MP camera. More info: http://www.facebook.com/home

The new “fastest car in the world”: the Venom GT

The mantle for “fastest production car in the world” has been passed once again to the Hennesy Venom GT. This video was shot recently and it shows the epic hypercar reaching a top speed of 427km/h on a 2 mile track. To find it’s top speed, they’re on their way to a banked bowl somewhere. The specs on this car are the only thing that come close to impressing on it’s top speed. It’s got a 7-litre, V8 engine producing an uncontionable 927kw and a 0-100 in just 2.7 seconds. Nike+ and Tom Tom GPS watch FULL REVIEW

Nike_TomTom_Featured

Nike and Tom Tom are both bosses in their respective industries. And now they’ve come together to create a GPS sports training watch that I’ve recently been playing with. From the outset the news is good. Setup and understanding of this device is idiot-easy. Simply turn the rechargable watch on and wait for it to connect to the GPS sattelites in tech heaven, where I believe all the tech that makes our lives better comes from. Things like the Cloud and such. If you’re excercising indoors, they’ve provided a shoe pod that you slip into your tekkie and it feeds the info to the watch for you. Obviously this watch is built with runners in mind, something that becomes clear once you start cycling through the data it collects. Pace, Avg Speed, Time, Distance and calories brunt. Post-workout, you slip the watch (which has a neatly hidden USB drive in… Read More »

An electric dirt bike. A sad day for petrolheads NEW BIKE

The breeding ground of young petrolheads is under threat fellow…um…petrolheads. There’s an electric dirt bike on the market. Known by most as a “scrambler”, you’re looking at the tool of education used by many a wanna-be stunt driver to get to know how an internal combustion engine works, why bikes are more fun than cars and also what a broken bone feels like. But now that’s all under threat thanks to BRD Motorcycles new RedShift MX, an electric motorbike made specifically for lite class racing. But as we’ve learnt from F1, racing is often the breeding ground for new technologies that will filter down into consumer vehicles, and that’s very worrysome for the reluctant 16-year-old who gets shoved on the back of a 125cc the moment he’s road legal and his parent are sick of doing the school run. The good news is that because it’s electric, there’s min maintenance,… Read More »

The new New Beetle driven ROAD TEST

Don’t bother denying it; you’ve been anticipating the launch of this car as much as you have the new Golf 7. Either you wanted to see if it is it still a girly, poser car for people with too much money, or it was because of that sad human need to drive past an accident and slow down to see what you could see. After driving it for a week and conducting a spot survey, the general consensus is “no, it’s not as girly as the first one but it’s still for people with too much money”. And at R240 000 to start, you can understand why. But seriously, well done on pulling the new VW Beetle back from the precipice of metrosexuality. They’ve beefed up the body a bit, got rid of that annoying flower on the dashboard and even given it some athleticism. After a week with the… Read More »
