Lamborghini Urus
This is the Lamborghini Urus, and obviously, it is their version of an SUV. It’s also, notably, going to be the cheapest Lambo available at only about $180 000 or a little more.
Of course this depends on if it ever gets made (Lambo upper-management hasn’t given the green light yet).
Assuming it gets made though, it’ll directly compete with the other concept luxury SUVs that haven’t yet been made like the Maserati Kubang and the one that has, the Porsche Cayenne.
The Urus (in SA we’ll call it the Oros) is to be built on the same platform as the new audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, and it’ll be the lightest and fastest SUV on the market.
That’s thanks to 100kg weight saving and the use of a 435kw Turbocharged 4-litre V8 from Audi that works alongside a hybrid electric motor. What? You thought it would be petrol only?
They’re only going to make 3000, so good luck seeing one in the flesh.
McLaren X-1
Slashgear.com summed this car up quite nicely when they said it’s “proof that money can’t buy taste”.
Hard to argue with them looking at this thing which appears to be a mashup of a Cadillac, a Veyron and a Bat-mobile. Whatevs.
Essentially this car is an MP4-12C on the inside and completely new on the outside.
Apparently this car was commissioned by an anonymous customer of McLaren’s and perhaps one day we’ll know more. I’m personally just stoked that McLaren has taken their fleet to more than 2 cars.
BMW Zagato Roadster
Not taking any time to chill after releasing their gorgeous Zagato Coupe on the world, BMW now present their Zagato Roadster. Equally magnificent and suitably classed!
Obviously the car is a collaboration between BMW and Italian coachbuilder Zagato, this time they worked fast, taking only 6 weeks to take the concept from first design to finished model.
Design-wise, look out for the familiar BMW low-set kidney grille and the intricate z-design grating. Also twin circular headlights and a three-dimensional front apron shape for the face.
Also like the Coupe before it, the Roadster sports a sweeping hood and long wheelbase, just look at it from the side. Mad how low the driver sits, handling must be exceptional. Speaking of handling, the Roadster is also built with Zagato roll-bars.
The Zagato Roadster also sports a double-bubble roof in the soft-top cover which runs all the way out to the back, accentuating those muscular hips.
Shelby GT500 Cobra
A collaborative effort between Ford Motor Company, Shelby American, Ford Racing and many others has resulted in an immensely powerful and one-of-a-kind 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra. How immensely powerful? 639 kws powerful. That’s stupid speed!
Obviously the collab is in memory of the late Carroll Shelby, a tribute to the great man who was responsible for multiple Ford performance vehicles including Cobras, the GT40 and the Mustangs. It’s not the first time Ford or Shelby have put this engine on four wheels, and if we’re lucky, it won’t be the last.
The racing supercharged V8 also has a Shelby American wide-body kit and an historical Blue/Wimbledon white paint stripe.
Generating the 639 kw made by this monstrous 4.0-litre Whipple supercharged engine is actually the easy part. Keeping it on the road and reining those horses in is the real task here.
To accomplish these important jobs, Ford has turned to 13-inch-wide and 20-inch long rear wheels that are wrapped in massive 345-section high-performance tires for extra grip and Shelby Wilwood brakes. Using a tugboat was just too impractical they said.
