What the fuck is that? WTF indeed!
In a short word, it’s a portable charging system for the new Volvo V60. The experimental concept will premiere in Rome in September at the car show and essentially it is a collapsible tensile membrane structure that folds into the boot of the car and expands out to collect energy and charge the hybrid car.
The mind-bending creation is ultra-lightweight (duh!) and deploys rapidly out of the boot to expose a pattern of photovoltaic panels to the sun. These then collect energy and filter it through to the car for charging.
Obviously it’s as green as a Leprechaun being made out of recyclable high-density polyethylene. Keep an eye out.
